During the Imperial period, Berlin boasted a variety of noble addresses at which sophisticated visitors resided on brief sojourns to the capital. Some of the most popular addresses included the “Adlon” (Unter den Linden), the “Esplanade” on Potsdamer Platz and the “Cumberland” on Kurfürstendamm. But only the Adlon Hotel has been fortunate enough to be restored to its former glory. The “Cumberland” is now being given a new lease of life – not as a hotel but rather as an elegant residential and business address in the heart of Germany’s most famous boulevard.
Underfloor heating with tailored sound impact protection
R50® underfloor heating ensures warm feet and a pleasant room climate in all apartments. In line with the unique ambience, some components have been adapted individually to the requirements of the Cumberland: apart from the low installation height, the system was also to feature thermal insulation as per DIN EN 1264 plus an impact sound reduction value of 34 decibels – impossible using conventional surface heating systems. Specially developed for modernising, upgrading and renovating, the R50® underfloor heating has an installation height of only 50 millimetres, including a load distribution layer, the pipe supports and the special cement-based high-performance floor. Furthermore, the system also features thermal insulation and impact sound protection as standard.
The new “old” Cumberland was to open its doors once again in September 2013. With R50® underfloor heating by SCHÜTZ Energy Systems preventing anyone from getting cold feet there while also providing rooms which are quiet as a whisper.
